“The Importance of Heritage in Preserving Cultural Identity” - Live

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has assigned the 27th of October of every year as the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. From this point, SMA is organizing a virtual seminar under the title “The Importance of Heritage in Preserving Cultural Identity” on Wednesday, 27 October 2021,  on Zoom platform.

The virtual seminar organized by the Authority includes 2 panel discussions, which will discuss the role of institutions in maintaining audiovisual heritage, in addition to highlighting the role of audiovisual heritage in strengthening the sense of belonging to the UAE.

The first session at 11:00 am hosts Dr. Zaki Aslan, Director- ICCROM-Sharjah Regional Conservation Centre, Sharjah, UAE, from ICCROM, Sharjah and Ms. Fatima Al Ali, Head of Collection Management Department at SMA.
The second session at 12:00 pm hosts researcher and heritage expert Ms. Fatima Al Mughani, and Emirati fine artist Azza Al Qubaisi.

The seminar aims to underline the importance of audiovisual heritage as well as the efforts taken by cultural institutions such as Sharjah Museums Authority and ICCROM and individuals and specialists to protect and preserve heritage from loss and neglect.

Adults (13+ years): 20.00AED
The museum entry is free during the following days:

  • Martyr's Day on 1st of December.
