WONDER AND INSPIRATION Venice and the Arts of Islam
This catalogue presents a rich collection of a historical legacy that is being exhibited for the first time outside of Venice through a collaboration between Sharjah Museums Authority and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, demonstrating the cultural and artistic links between Venice and the Islamic world from the Medieval Era to the Modern Era.
The catalogue features 72 objects under three themes: Encounters, Dialogues, and Inspirations, to highlight the story of the cultural and knowledge exchange in the fields of science, commerce, arts, and literature, as well as to reveal the richness and depth of the benefits and influences that the Venetian craftsmen drew from the East, through observing the decorative motifs, or interpreting the exquisite techniques of craftsmanship in metalwork, leather, polishing, ceramics, paint, glass, textiles, and so on in unique ways.
